Ubuntu 12.04 installation. Dual boot with Windows


Ubuntu 12.04 is released. To install Ubuntu 12.04, first download the iso file from here. Installing Ubuntu 12.04 is same as installing other version of Ubuntu with a minor change in GUI. To install  Ubuntu 12.04 you must have 10GB of space. The steps given here can also be used to dual boot Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7.
 To dual boot Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows OS first empty one of your drive. Ubuntu 12.04 can be dual boot with Window 7, XP and Vista. Given here is step by step instruction to install Ubuntu 12.04 along with screenshot.
Step by step instruction  for Ubuntu installation.
1) Boot from  the bootable Ubuntu USB or CD.

Select Install Ubuntu 

2) The following Ubuntu screen will appear.

Leave the "Install this third party software" option unchecked, you can download the software later on. 

3) The following Window will appear. If you select the option ” Erase disk and install Ubuntu”, this option will install the Ubuntu and delete the other OS in the system. To dual boot Ubuntu 12.04 select the option ” Something else”.

5)  Then the following window will appear in this window select the disk drive in which you want to install the Ubuntu 12.04. In this window this drive is shown as free space. Select the drive and click on change option.
Step 4: Select the drive in which Ubuntu has to be installed
In option "Device for boot loader Installation" select the master drive of you system.

6) After clicking on change option, the following window will appear.

Step 5: Set the drive size here.
Define the size of the partition ( recommended 8GB) . In the “Use as” option select “Ext4 journaling file system”. This is the latest file system in Linux and select mount point as “/“. Press OK.

7)In the next window you will see the window as in step 4. Only difference is that in front of the drive you have select will the options ext4 for Type and "/" for Mount point. Make sure you have these options in front of your selected drive or check your steps again.  Now click on "Install Now".

8)  Now you will be asked to select the time zone and Keyword layout of the system.
9) In the last window give the name and password of the system and click next.
10) And you Ubuntu installation is done.

NOTE: About Swap partition, as now a days  Laptops and Desktop come with high RAM,. it is not advisable to use swap partition. Just trying to keep things simple, Swap partition can be created later on.
